Define the problem and the user
Write down who the app is for, what job it helps them do and how you will know it is working. A short list of must-have journeys is more useful than a long feature list.
Choose native or cross-platform
Cross-platform frameworks such as Flutter and React Native share one codebase across iOS and Android and suit most business apps. Native Swift and Kotlin make sense for heavy device features, complex graphics or the highest performance.
Design before you build
Wireframes and clickable prototypes let you test flows with real users in days. Fixing a journey in a prototype costs a fraction of fixing it in code.
- Design onboarding, empty states and errors, not just the happy path
- Follow Apple and Google platform guidelines
Plan the back end
Most apps need authentication, an API, a database, push notifications and an admin panel. Decide early what must work offline and how data will sync.
Test on real devices
Automated tests catch regressions; real-device testing catches the problems users actually hit — small screens, older OS versions, slow networks and low battery.
Launch, measure and iterate
Prepare store listings, privacy labels and release notes. After launch, watch crash reports, ratings and funnel analytics, and ship small improvements regularly.
